Mixing Classic and eBPF-based OpenTelemetry Instrumentation
eBPF-based instrumentation has gained traction—and often marketed as a complete solution for observability—but most production environments are not starting from scratch and have mixed tech stack. This talk challenges that narrative by examining OpenTelemetry eBPF Instrumentation (OBI) in a practical context: what it can deliver today, where it falls short, and why it cannot replace traditional language-level instrumentation. We will explore how to run eBPF and classic OpenTelemetry side by side, focusing on real integration. We will finish with positioning OBI in the OpenTelemetry stack and exploring areas of interest for future roadmap.

Day-2 Reality Check: Taming Wasteful Telemetry
Auto-instrumentation gets you to Day-1 fast — but without governance, it creates a mess: 7-day traces with 3,000 spans, service.name set to an IP address, 99% duplicate DEBUG logs, and Kubernetes annotations bloating every span. Elena walks through the root causes of wasteful telemetry and the practical fixes: Collector-level attribute filtering and PII redaction, OTel Weaver for schema governance, SDK wrappers, and agentic instrumentation quality checks.
