17.15 TALK 1 - The Beginning Of A Journey To The Edge with Talos Kubernetes by Khaled Hammoun and Daniel Hansen @ JYSK
JYSK operates in over 48 countries, with more than 3,500 stores worldwide—each store representing the true edge of our global enterprise. But how do you deliver modern digital solutions to such a diverse, distributed, and resource-constrained environment?Join us as we share our journey to the edge: the motivations behind our strategy, the real-world challenges we faced, and the lessons learned from our failures and successes. Imagine deploying to thousands of stores, each with its own unique configurations and often unpredictable network conditions. Our mission: build a solution so lightweight and flexible enough to run anywhere, from the most powerful servers to the humblest machines.
Bandwidth limitations? Hardware diversity? We faced it all. Discover how Talos Linux became a game changer, enabling us to deliver a unified, reliable platform across every store—no matter the constraints.
But this is just the beginning. We’ll share our vision for the future, the next steps in our infrastructure evolution, and how these innovations can transform not just JYSK, but any enterprise looking to reach its true edge.

18.45 - TALK 2 - Beyond Containers: Designing a VM-First Developer Platform on Kubernetes by Karsten Nielsen - Domain Lead & Principal Platform Engineer @ IO Interactive
Developer platforms on Kubernetes are often built for containers—but what if your workloads are mainly VMs, with just a sprinkle of containers? We’ll dive into how we built a VM-first developer platform using CNCF tools like KubeVirt, Cilium, and Rook. We’ll share the lessons from scaling networking, storage, and migration—all while keeping the platform observable, scalable, and developer-friendly. Whether you’re lifting legacy workloads or designing for hybrid futures, you’ll walk away with practical insights for a platform where VMs feels like first-class citizens in your Kubernetes world.
Karsten Nielsen - Domain Lead & Principal Platform Engineer @ IO Interactive
A long-time advocate of open-source infrastructure, a CNCF community contributor and open-source contributor, I’ve spent over a decade designing scalable systems that bridge legacy and cloud-native workloads. At IO Interactive, I lead the development of the company’s Kubernetes-based Developer Platform, empowering teams to deliver faster and safer using cutting-edge cloud-native tooling. My technical focus spans private / hybrid cloud, bare-metal Kubernetes, VM/container hybrid orchestration (KubeVirt, Virtual Kubelet), CI/CD, and cloud-native networking/observability (Cilium, eBPF) – tools I’ve championed as a speaker at Cloud Native Denmark 2025, CiliumCon 2023, eBPF Day 2022, and the OpenNebula Conference (2015–2016). I thrive on translating complex infrastructure challenges into actionable solutions – and sharing those stories with the community.
