About this event

We are excited to host the fourth edition of the Cloud Native Computing Linz meetup!

--------- The Speakers ---------

- Oded Keret is the director of product management at Rookout, the Live Debugging company. In the last 2 years he has focused on shaping Rookout into a remote debugging service that lets development teams debug Kubernetes apps quickly and easily.

Before joining Rookout, Oded worked as a software engineer and product manager at HP, developing and designing solutions in the performance testing and monitoring domain, focusing on shifting left performance testing and on monitoring cloud based, SaaS applications.

- Dimitrij Klesev is a Certified Kubernetes and Cloud Engineer at WhizUs. Beside working in DevOps and with CNCF stack he always takes an eye on security related stuff.

--------- The Talks ---------

Oded Keret - Remote debugging challenges in Kubernetes

Debugging has always been a core part of software development. As soon as we've written more than a line of code - we have at least one bug in our app. Traditionally, debugging is done by running an app locally in debug mode, or by printing to a local log file. Debugging remotely may be a bit trickier, but can usually be done by attaching to a remote process, or by pipelining logs to an observability platform.

Debugging a Kubernetes app is never that straightforward. There isn't a server you can attach to, and running a complex setup locally isn't always possible. And in a live setup, adding a single log line may require minutes or hours of waiting time even in the best of automated deploy pipelines.

In this talk we will share lessons we learned from our customers, as we helped them make journey from "cave man" debugging to debugging live Kubernetes apps.

Dimitrij Klesev - When the destination is not what you expect to be or MITM in Kubernetes (CVE-2020-8554)

With the recently discovered MITM vulnerability CVE-2020-8554 in Kubernetes all clusters are affected due to the design issue.

In this talk we will discover what exactly the problem is and how we can mitigate it.

Meetup will be via Zoom, please respond to get the link to the call.
