Durable Execution at Uber Scale: Orchestrating Multi-Region Resilience with Cadence
in-personAbstract: At Uber, downtime is not an option. Behind the scenes, our open-source workflow engine, Cadence, manages millions of concurrent executions. But how do you safely run and recover large, stateful workloads when a whole geographic region fails?
Achieving regional resilience for workflows is difficult. You have to deal with data replication lag, prevent split-brain scenarios, and make sure tasks are not lost or duplicated across regions.
You will learn about the built-in Cadence features we use for precise failovers, and how we turn massive regional resiliency drills into a routine, everyday task instead of a stressful emergency.

Multiple Clusters Behaving as ONE
in-personIf you’ve tried running multi-cluster Kubernetes setups in production, I’d wager you’ve stumbled into at least a couple of headache-inducing issues, including but most definitely not limited to, CIDR overlaps, cross-cluster traffic roundtripping across ingresses and no good way of enforcing uniform network policies across your environment.
In this talk I’ll show you how Cilium can help you solve some of these issues and leave you with smoother ops and less headaches. We’ll be looking at Cilium and its Cluster Mesh features as our main focus but I will also give you a taste of my opinion on why Cilium is the superior CNI out there.
