Who Maintains the Internet? - The people behind the open source we all depend on

    in-person

The internet runs on open source, but open source does not maintain itself.

A package update, a container image or a Kubernetes release may look like a small thing from the outside. Behind it are people reviewing changes, fixing regressions, handling security issues, making releases and, eventually, deciding what they can no longer afford to maintain.

Using Alpine Linux and k0s as examples, this talk looks at what happens on the other side of the pull request. What actually consumes maintainer time? What happens when producing patches becomes much cheaper than reviewing them? And why can taking responsibility for one small part of a project be more valuable than submitting a large amount of code?

The goal is to make some of this work visible, and to encourage more people to become part of it.
