About this event

🚀 Three communities, one night, and the countdown to KCD Porto starts here.

Cloud Native Porto is joining forces with DevOps Porto and AWS User Group Porto for a special KCD Warmup edition, hosted by MC Digital at the Sonae Tech Hub. Two practitioner talks: what cloud native really means inside a large organisation, and how to use the cloud itself to keep the cloud secure.

Consider it a warm-up for KCD Porto × DevOpsDays Portugal, happening on 19–20 November at Super Bock Arena.

📍 Venue: Tech Hub (Sonae), Porto 📅 Date: November 4, 2026 ⏰ Doors open: 18:30

🗓 Agenda 18:30 · Check-in & Networking

19:00 · Welcome & Intros

19:10 · What “Cloud Native” actually means for a service at MC Digital, and the golden rules and paved road we are building to get there

🎤 Victor Hugo Silva, Principal Technical Architect @ MC Digital

At MC Digital, “cloud native” isn’t a deployment location. It’s an architecture built for dynamic, distributed environments. It requires stateless instances, routine failure handling, zero-drama scaling, lightning-fast GitOps rollouts, and deep end-to-end observability without debuggers.

We’ll dive into our Cloud-Native Guidelines for Software Development and break down our Golden Rules for backend services, covering foundations, non-negotiable standards, deliberate stances and the paved road.

19:45 · Governing the Ungovernable: Leveraging the Cloud to Secure the Cloud

🎤 Chris Farris, AWS Security Hero & Owner @ PrimeHarbor Technologies

The cloud has democratised IT, taking it from the hands of sysadmin gatekeepers and allowing anyone in your organisation to create and deploy applications, often without the security controls you’d want. With the fall of the IT Empire, how does cybersecurity protect our assets from the roving bands of developers and DevOps, who expose things to the internet in new and unexpected ways?

Cloud providers offer us some tools, but they fall short of actual solutions. In this session, Chris will walk you through the concept of Security Invariants, how they can be applied to your organisation, and how we can leverage event-driven architecture to cover the edge cases the cloud providers don’t account for. Whether you’re a large, well-funded enterprise or a small, scrappy start-up, you’ll get some actionable ideas (and even a bit of code) you can use to govern your cloud estate better. 20:20 · Food, drinks & networking 🍕🍻
