About this event

17:30 - Get together and Welcome Snacks

18:00 - Karpenter - Evolving Kubernetes Autoscaling | Assaf Kendler, Principal Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services(AWS)

Karpenter, a Kubernetes node lifecycle manager, has recently joined the CNCF SIG Autoscaling and transitioned to the beta phase. Originally launched in 2021, Karpenter aims to streamline cluster node configurations. With over 4900 GitHub stars and contributions from 200+ developers, it has gained significant traction. This move signifies a milestone in its evolution, focusing on API maturity and stability to cater to user needs effectively. The transition to beta ensures enhanced stability, prioritizing backward compatibility for seamless adoption of new features. Karpenter version 0.32.0 introduces API changes, deprecating previous alpha versions and paving the way for v1beta1 APIs. The project follows a progression from alpha to beta to stable, with future releases focusing on stability without significant API alterations. This transition underscores Karpenter's commitment to meeting user requirements and aligning with CNCF standards.

Speaker - Assaf Kendler, Principal Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services(AWS)

Assaf is a principle solutions architect working with the Israeli finance sector in their joint journey to the clouds, loves K8S from the early days and is now an EKS geek.

18:45 - Auto-scaling Kubernetes on a Budget | Ant(on) Weiss, Chief Cluster Whisperer at PerfectScale

One of the most exciting features of Kubernetes is its ability to scale up, down, out, and in - both on-demand and automatically. But scaling is first and foremost an economical decision.

Now that so many organizations depend on Kubernetes in their production environments - it's time to define the best practices of how, why, and when to scale. And analyze the involved costs - on the operational, cognitive, and environmental levels.

We'll go over the Kubernetes scaling technologies and solutions, understand the economics of a Kubernetes cluster, and discuss industry-proven practices for Kubernetes performance, cost, and sustainability optimization.

Speaker - Ant(on) Weiss, Chief Cluster Whisperer at PerfectScale
