Talk 1: How YOU can help to expand the observable universe A session focused on native instrumentation of libraries and applications with OpenTelemetry and how your contributions to the observability of open source projects can significantly broaden the horizons of what we can observe and understand in our systems.
Talk 2: Snake Charming Kubernetes with a Nano Python Framework Building a Kubernetes controller or admission webhook usually means reaching for Go: kubebuilder, controller-runtime, client-go. If your team lives in Python, that's a steep detour just to react to a CREATE event or reject a bad label. knete is a lightweight, dependency-free Python framework for building controllers and webhooks without leaving the language you already know. Watch any resource and react to create/update/delete events with a few lines of Python. Write validating webhooks that reject non-compliant objects, or mutating webhooks that patch them on the way in — as classes or, if you'd rather skip the ceremony, as plain decorated functions. A small, unmagical API turns out to have another benefit: it's easy for LLMs to reason about too. No annotations, no codegen, no hidden reflection - Just plain Python that a coding assistant can read in full and extend correctly, first try. In this talk I'll introduce knete's design, show a validating and a mutating webhook going from Python function to running admission controller in minutes, and talk about where a "nano operator framework" makes sense versus reaching for established Go tooling — and where it doesn't.
