Agenda

17:00 – Arrival & Networking Grab a drink, meet the community, and settle in. Food and drinks are kindly sponsored by Denovo.

17:15 – Welcome & CNCG Graz Intro Short welcome, community update, and an overview of the evening.

17:25 – Host Introduction: Denovo Our host Denovo will briefly introduce themselves, their work, and why cloud-native infrastructure, platform engineering, and digital sovereignty are relevant topics for them.

17:35 – Talk: Europa & Cloud Native – An opinionated approach Speaker: Lukas Korl, Director of Operations at Denovo GmbH

Europe has been debating its digital future for years. Debates are free, but hyperscaler invoices, unfortunately, are not.

Now that the global race for AI compute is in full swing, Europe has to face some uncomfortable questions: Can European cloud and AI providers keep pace? Is it realistic to run production-ready, cloud-native applications fully on European infrastructure? And what does “digital sovereignty” actually mean once architecture, operations, compliance, cost, and scalability enter the picture?

In this talk, Lukas Korl takes an opinionated and practical look at Europe’s position in cloud computing, infrastructure, AI, and digital services. Based on real-world experience at Denovo, he explores where European providers are already stronger than many people think, where hyperscalers still have a clear advantage, and what teams need to consider when making infrastructure decisions today.

The talk will cover:

  • why Europe consumes far more cloud computing than it produces
  • hyperscalers with European regions vs. European cloud alternatives
  • what a production-ready cloud-native setup actually requires end-to-end
  • where European providers deliver well, and where they still fall short
  • the TCO question: sovereignty vs. hyperscaler convenience
  • European AI infrastructure and whether it can serve competitive workloads today
  • hybrid and multi-cloud as a deliberate strategy, not just a fallback

Attendees will leave with a realistic framework for evaluating European cloud options — not based on ideal scenarios, but on practical decisions teams actually have to make.

18:20 – Q&A Open discussion and questions from the audience.

18:35 – CNCG Pub Quiz As usual, we’ll wrap up the official part with a short nerdy pub quiz. Everyone plays individually — no teams, just you, your cloud-native knowledge, and questionable confidence.

Quiz prizes are kindly sponsored by Denovo.

19:00 – Networking, Food & Drinks Stay for food, drinks, discussions, and community exchange.
