This talk explores how developers can reduce costs and optimize Kubernetes deployments in edge computing scenarios using vCluster. As edge computing becomes increasingly prevalent, managing Kubernetes clusters across distributed environments presents unique challenges. We are going to present a demo of how vCluster can be leveraged to create a self-service Kubernetes platform that's particularly well-suited for edge deployments. vClusters enable users to launch virtual clusters per tenant in any Kubernetes cluster, including those at the edge. This approach is crucial for edge computing, where resources are often limited and need to be carefully managed. By creating separate clusters for each tenant in a multi-tenant architecture, we can address the specific scaling and resource allocation challenges by edge environments.

This talk introduces Cluster API (CAPI) and explores how it simplifies managing Kubernetes clusters. We'll start with an overview of CAPI, then take a look at key features of two Kubernetes distributions: K3S and RKE2. Next, we'll dive into how these distributions are represented and managed using CAPI. Finally, we'll wrap up with a live demo showing how to create, update, and manage clusters for both distributions.
