You thought budgeting of on-prem infrastructure with questions like "How many machines do I need for next year?" is tricky? Think again! You will most likely never run out of computing power using the cloud, but you still need to predict how much it will cost. It is even more challenging with autonomous teams, which can basically do whatever they want. This talk will be about how we are budgeting for the cloud for a year-long period together with your development teams and how to cooperate with them throughout the year to keep it. We will also share some of our FinOps-related activities and their impact.

Cost optimization is a complex topic because it brings together areas like DevOps, Financial Management, and Software Architecture. Rather than being a one-time task, it is more about a long-term mindset and culture. Cost optimization should be a factor that the engineering team considers in every decision regarding application, design, and infrastructure. During the presentation, we will discuss how any company in the cloud can save money and what aspects we typically focus on at the beginning of each project. Through real use cases, we will explain and describe how our cost optimization mindset translates into real software and infrastructure.
