The Post-Hypervisor Era: Unifying Brownfield VMs, AI, and Containers on a Single Control Plane

The "all-container" future hasn't arrived. In the real world, Platform Engineers are paying a heavy "Platform Tax"—forced to maintain two separate worlds: declarative Kubernetes for modern apps, and imperative virtualization platforms for legacy workloads.

We struggle with this "Two-Stack" reality. Virtualization APIs often break backward compatibility during upgrades, shattering the custom automation and brittle integrations we rely on. We are forced to write code that says "Do This" (Imperative), rather than manifests that say "Ensure This State" (Declarative).

In this session, we present the architecture of the Unified Declarative Platform. Using CozyStack (CNCF Sandbox) as a reference model, we will demonstrate how to eliminate the Platform Tax by wrapping legacy workloads in the stability of the Kubernetes API.

Technical Deep Dive:
• The Death of "Fragile APIs": Replacing brittle integration scripts with standard Kubernetes operators. Manage DBs, VMs, Networks, and Storage using the same stable, declarative patterns (CRDs) as your microservices.
• Extreme Performance: A look at real-world benchmarks achieving 0.030ms - 0.080ms storage latency for high-load databases using LINSTOR, eliminating the multi-millisecond overhead of legacy vSANs.
• AI-Ready Resource Pooling: How to architect a unified hardware layer where GPUs can be dynamically passed through to legacy VMs or tenant Kubernetes clusters for AI inference.
• Democratizing Access: How to provide a simple, cloud-like UI for developers to self-provision infrastructure, hiding the complexity of the underlying bare metal.
